About

Acclaimed for her “superior vocal value” (Boston Globe) and “a tour de force, not only scaling the vocal heights with an easy, sparkling tone and accuracy of pitch, but also acting with cleverness and wit” (Tampa Bay Times), soprano Hein Jung has captivated audiences in major cities throughout the United States, Italy, Greece, and South Korea. Her appearances span prestigious venues including the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program, Tanglewood, Carnegie Hall, Kumho Art Hall, Lotte Performing Arts Center, and Sejong Art Center, with performances alongside the Indianapolis Opera, The Florida Orchestra, Opera Tampa, St. Pete Opera, Milwaukee Symphony, Madison Opera, Bel Canto Chorus, Concert Artist Series of Sarasota, Kenosha-Racine Symphony, and Bucheon Civic Philharmonic.

Jung’s opera engagements include Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Lucia in The Rape of Lucretia, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Amina in La Sonnambula, Fiordiligi in Cosi Fan Tutte, Blanche in Dialogue des Carmelites, among others. Her oratorio and concert credits include soprano soloist performances in Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Orgelmesse, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, and Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras. A committed advocate for contemporary music, Jung has portrayed world premiere roles, including Queen Juana in Robert Zuidam’s opera Rage d’amour at Tanglewood Music Festival, and Princess Cocachin in The Red Silk Thread by Stella Sung, commissioned by the Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Most recently, she appeared as soloist in Dream of Seagull, a concerto aria composed specifically for her by Lyum Orchestra and broadcast live on Korean Arte TV.

Her recording Songs of Franz Liszt earned high praise from American Record Guide: “Hein Jung has the perfect voice—terrific ease in her upper register and a silvery clear tone.”

For the 2025–2026 season, Jung will appear in the Sunday Concert Series at Howard Performing Arts Center in Michigan, perform as soprano soloist in Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 with the InterHarmony Cello Ensemble in Italy, perform Orff’s Carmina Burana with the UW-Madison Symphony Orchestra and Choir, appear in the Grand Gala Concert at the Portoheli Festival in Greece, and reprise her signature role of the Queen of the Night in Opera Tampa’s production of The Magic Flute and with the HNAMU Symphony in Seoul, Korea and The Florida Orchestra Master Worke Series.

Jung has earned top prizes in prestigious competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (Wisconsin District and Upper Midwest Region), the Opera Columbus International Vocal Competition, and the Schubert Club Competition. Dr. Jung serves as Professor of Voice at the University of Tampa, where her students have achieved remarkable success on national and international stages. She has been a featured guest speaker at the New York State School Music Association conference and at the International Congress of Voice Teachers in Sweden. Each summer, she serves as Artistic Voice Faculty at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy and the Portoheli International Festival for Arts in Greece. Hein Jung is represented by Curzon Artist Management, New York.

• “A lovely recording of Liszt songs by Soprano Hein Jung, Piano Grigorios Zamparas: Jung has the perfect voice for this music-terrific ease in her upper register and a silvery clear tone”

• “The Composer’s nemesis is Zerbinetta, star of the comedy troupe, a coloratura coquette sung by Hein Jung, and their duet in the Prologue was a beautiful blend. Ultimately, Strauss’ opera is a contest of divas, Zerbinetta and Ariadne, the prima donna on the desert island of Naxos, played by Elizabeth Beers Kataria. Both she and Jung were superbly up to the occasion in the Act 2 opera-within-the-opera on Friday……Then came Zerbinetta’s attempt to cheer up Ariadne, Grossmächtige Prinzessin, a coloratura showpiece, full of spectacular roulades and trills. Jung made it a tour de force, not only scaling the vocal heights with an easy, sparkling tone and accuracy of pitch, but also acting with cleverness and wit.”
Tampa Bay Times, Ariadne auf Naxos, Hein Jung as Zerbinetta

• “(The) Song Arirang was written for soprano Hein Jung and her wonderful, heavenly voice! The composition presents four versions of Arirang that are subjected to stylistic variations based on elements derived from Western pop, rock, and jazz.”
A Festival of New Vocal Music Newsletter, Song Arirang by Zack Browning written for Hein Jung

• “The voice of soprano Hein Jung…the final song, “Faible Coeur” (Faint Heart), reached a much higher level of lyric impact, far surpassing…”
Herald-Tribune, Artist Series of Sarasota, Chopin Spectacular Concert

• “Superior vocal value from soprano Hein Jung
Boston Globe, Tanglewood Music Festival, Ned Rorem Tribute Concert

• “Cogent and capable performance from Hein Jung
San Francisco Chronicle, Rape of Lucretia, Hein Jung as Lucia

• “Most notable is the singing, marvelous in each and every instance… (Olthafer and) Jung shine as competing sisters and dueling sopranos, their strength and polish even more evident in contrast to the wonderfully and humorously.”
